Working height is platform height plus about 2 m. On the HS series, 13.8 m is the working height, which puts the platform at roughly 11.8 m. Tell us the height of your task and we will convert it. Capacity has to cover operators, tools and materials, with roughly 20% headroom on top of that total. Ground decides the build type. Sealed floors take a self-propelled machine on non-marking tyres, uneven ground takes a crawler on tracks. Access is the constraint people miss. The machine has to clear your lowest doorway stowed, not just fit the aisle once it is inside.
A scissor lift is not a new fleet. It is one more machine on infrastructure you have already paid for. The HS series charges from a standard 220 V outlet through an internal charger, so it needs no three phase install and no dedicated charging room. Check that your service agreement can absorb another unit, and that your operators' Yellow Cards cover class SL. Most of our warehouse customers add the scissor lift to their existing Hangcha agreement rather than opening a second supplier relationship.
Hire is the right answer for a one off fitout or a height you need once a year. Ownership wins on utilisation. Take your local weekly hire rate, multiply it by the weeks you realistically need the machine each year, then add the delivery and pickup charged on every hire event. That last figure is where short repeat hires quietly get expensive, and it never appears in the headline rate.
Availability is the second factor. A hired machine turns up when the hire fleet has one. We hold stock in VIC, NSW and QLD, so purchase lead time runs in days rather than the twelve week import cycle common in this category.
Hire and the hire company carries the inspection burden. Own and you carry it. Plan for daily pre start checks, periodic inspection under AS 2550.10 at an interval matched to how hard the machine works, and a major inspection around the ten year mark. Height and capacity always get checked. What the machine does to the floor underneath usually does not, until a mezzanine or an epoxy slab is involved. A wheeled machine puts its weight through four contact patches, so point load is the number that matters rather than total weight. A crawler is heavier, around 3 t on the mid range HS models, but spreads that weight along the full length of its tracks. That is why it works on soft ground, and equally why those tracks can mark a finished floor a wheeled machine would cross without trouble.
